A talented and versatile performer in the Twin-Cities area with decades of experience in large and small ensembles alike. Matthew has a wealth of experience in all styles of music, but he specializes in Jazz, Blues, Funk, and R&B.
Even with humble beginnings, Matthew was ever surrounded by music and the arts. His family was active in music through the church and other avenues, and the family record collection was filled with names like The New York Philharmonic, Ray Charles, Judy Collins, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Harry Belafonte, and so much more.
Matthew was singing in his Mom’s church choir from a very young age. He took up the entire family of brass instruments and continued with bands and choirs most of his young life. Playing in Drum and Bugle Corps made up a great portion of his life, as well as musical theater and vocal ensembles. Matthew also spent many years as a church Music Director.
Matthew’s first musical love was always Jazz. Throughout his life, the variety of Jazz styles and attitudes kept him coming back to listen and learn more. In 2005, Matthew completed his Degree in Vocal Performance with an Emphasis in Jazz Studies. Matthew lives in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota with his incredible wife and wonderful children.
“I’ve spent the better part of my life learning as much as I can about music. The road has been very fulfilling, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Through all of that, I’ve learned what it truly means to be a part of a musical ensemble. If we respect the music and listen to each other, we can give the crowd a snapshot of history while providing something memorable and new at the same time.” ~Matthew Tye
